Published by Responsible Citizens Advice, June 2014

Great News! Due to hard work, campaigning, and negotiating in Westminster, by the Responsible Citizens Advice and others for a system of recall in the UK there are now 2 competing bills doing the rounds in Westminster. The first has been written by Nick Clegg and is considered by Westminster insiders to be a bit of a joke as it is a prime example of MPs marking their own homework and would actually lead to parties having more control over MPs than the people they represent. Consequently it is backed by those that believe in party machine politics but no one else.

The second is a wonderful effort by Zac Goldsmith MP a long and notable campaigner for direct recall. It offers the real thing. Voters would be able to recall their MP directly, if they were dissatisfied with their performance. Not surprisingly Zac has received cross party support for his bill from responsible MPs that support full, open, accountable, and transparent democracy.

However, Zac needs your help. In a great example of participatory democracy he wants to know what you think of his bill. Below are two links, one to his bill, and one to a survey requesting feedback. Please involve yourselves in this process and show that individuals in the UK are capable of helping to create legislation.

Here is the draft bill. DRAFT BILL

Please give feedback on it here. SURVEY

If you want to see the MPs that are with Zac on this please see who has signed up to Early Day Motion 25 here. EDM25

If your MP hasn’t signed it then why not ask them to do so? If they have signed it why not publically congratulate them?
