Zac Chairs an All-Party Group Condemning Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)

As co-chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Zac Goldsmith is leading efforts in Parliament to get the Government to do more to stop this terrible practice at home and abroad.

The group’s most recent session saw FGM survivors and experts working in the police force, education, the NHS and child protection discussing with MPs the effectiveness of the UK’s anti-FGM laws and developing a plan for how they can be improved.

The international dimension is also crucial, with the UK as the only nation in the world to fund a specific anti-FGM project through its overseas aid spending. Zac has met with those leading this project as well as with Stanley Johnson, who helped to set up the United Nations Population Fund which campaigns against FGM worldwide, to develop a more effective approach.
