I am committed to doing all I can to stop expansion at Heathrow. I have re-established the All Party Parliamentary Group on Heathrow Expansion, which I chair and which sees MPs and peers from all the main parties coordinating our responses to the Government and the airport. With a parliamentary vote on the proposed expansion now delayed again until next year, I am focused on exposing the numerous flaws in Heathrow’s third runway plan and persuading as many of my parliamentary colleagues as possible to oppose this scheme. For an overview of this issue please visit LINK.
I also continue to coordinate the No 3rd Runway Coalition, which I helped found, and which encompasses all the major politicians, local councils and NGOs who are actively opposing Heathrow expansion. For information about the Coalition, see; LINK)
The Conservative Government pledged to give many of our overseas territories marine protected status, and as a consequence we have now protected an area larger than India. This is a campaign I led within Parliament.
I am now working in Parliament to ensure that the policy is fully funded, supported, and expanded to protect as much of the marine environment as possible. Find more amount this issue via this LINK.
ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT SELECT COMMITTEE
I have been re-elected as a member of the Environmental Audit Select Committee of MPs. The Committee scrutinises the work of all government departments in contributing to environmental protection and sustainable development. With Brexit on the horizon, as well as ongoing challenges like air quality, this is a vital time for the Committee and I will be playing a full part in making sure that the Government does more to protect the environment. You can find an article I wrote setting out my views on Brexit and the environment HERE; and you can read more about the Committee’s work HERE.
Though Parliament has only sat for a few weeks since the General Election, I have participated in several debates. Links to some of them can be found below:
