Zac Goldsmith works with Council to clear Ham Common

On Thursday, 19th of July, a group of Travellers settled on Ham Common. Up to 25 vehicles and caravans assembled in the middle of the Common.

Shortly after they arrived, Zac Goldsmith MP went to meet Councillors and police on the Common to work out how to remove them.

He was given assurances by Rob Applegarth, Richmond’s Borough Lead, that immediate steps would be taken to remove them. A notice was subsequently issued and the travellers were required to vacate the Common by 2pm the next day.

Zac said: “It wasn’t the friendliest atmosphere on Thursday evening and I can well understand why local residents were so alarmed.  I want to thank the enforcement officers and local Police for their very swift response.”
