Campaign :: Sainsbury's in Barnes - The Battle Continues

Sainsburys Barnes

ArticlesPress ReleasesGalleryPetitionLinks

Introduction

After an unprecedented referendum, arranged by Zac Goldsmith and carried out by the Electoral Reform Services, revealed massive opposition to a proposed new Sainsbury's in Barnes, the CEO of Sainsbury's agreed to meet local campaigners.

At that meeting, it was agreed that the company would hand over the site on the condition that it wasn't required to make a financial loss, and that it wouldn't be passed to a competitor. However when after months of trying, the White Hart Action Group and Zac Goldsmith found an organic grocery company willing to match the yearly rental and pay a premium, Sainsbury's went back on its word.

The WHAG has drawn up a new campaign plan which will involve a widespread and long-term boycott of the store.
