Two million whales, dolphins, seals, turtles and seabirds are killed every year by plastic. In the UK alone, we use around 15 billion plastic bags each year. We hope to show other villages and towns all over the country what they could do to change things if they get together and express the ease of becoming a non-plastic area. It isn't hard - it's all about persistance. Traders across the borough of Richmond upon Thames and Kingston are getting together with the Greener upon Thames to help end the free plastic bag culture that has caused so much damage, particularly to the world's ocean life. We want to pursue a healthier world by taking responsibility for our needless waste. Convenience is easy, but our environment is in trouble. Last year Kew Village, located in the beautiful borough of Richmond upon Thames, launched a plastic free initiative called Greener Kew. The overwhelming sucess of this program has inspired the surrounding villages to follow suit. Links
